The accountability movement represents a developing
perspective in the clients movement whose orientation
is to struggle for clients being treated with
personal respect. The approach we take is to
work on clients considering themselves
accountable to upholding client values -
such as ethical behavior with other clients,
fighting discrimination even at a micro
level, enhancing the role of sensitivity/empathy,
working in the direction of changing the
rationalist paradigm in psychology.
We go about advocating this perspective
by networking around these values and by
engaging creatively in projects which in our
estimate upgrade the way the clients
movement does business. We hope to reform
the tendency towards abusive interactions and
help bring about a new tradition in client
affairs where we will be better grounded in
demanding respect from society.

We feel that our work direction is not included in the planks currently under discussion for the National Summit. Our reform effort now has considerable strength in California and it has interest/sympathy across the country. We hope the organizers of the National Summit will add a twelfth plank "Accountability" to the eleven already being organized. We will be happy to provide the leadership and work process necessary to prepare the workshop for this plank. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
